General SummaryDocuments test procedures, conducts a variety of product, prototype or laboratory testing. Analyzes and reports test results. Assists in building, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating test/laboratory equipment. Prepares samples for prototype or laboratory testing. Fabricates mechanical, electrical or plastic parts.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms some combination of the following duties:1. Prepares test procedures, test set-ups, and test samples. Conducts tests in accordance with engineering schematics and drawings or oral instructions.2. Assists in supervised prototype, rehabilitation, or laboratory tests requiring the selection, operation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of equipment. May prepare material, chemical or propellant samples.3. Collects data, records and performs limited calculations to analyze test data. Writes reports on test results.4. Fabricates mechanical, electrical or plastic parts (e.g., sheet metal, circuit boards, moldings) and prepares samples for testing from sketches or drawings. Operates equipment necessary to fulfill this duty.5. Determines parts/materials required for fabrication and testing. Orders supplies and maintain inventory levels.6. May provide input to test plans or assembly schedules.7. Travels as required to off-site testing locations.Basic Qualifications1. Work requires a level of general educational development normally acquired in two years of technical vocational training or equivalent military experience in electronics, hydraulics, mechanics, physics and/or chemistry. Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation tools and/or knowledge of specific materials to be tested (e.g. energetic, ablative, metal) is required. Working knowledge of p.c. based software packages is preferred. Certain positions covered by this job description may require specialized technical knowledge.2. A minimum of two years of related experience is required to conduct tests, record data, troubleshoot, calibrate and repair equipment and maintain processing records.Based on years of experience we may consider a candidate at a higher level3. Mechanic/Mechanical related knowledge and skills, including Machinist/Welding Skills and Mechanical aptitude - Drives (gears, bearings, bushings, chains, belts, cables), force, torque, thrust, springs (beam, coil, torsion), mechanisms, linkages, fluids, heat transfer, cooling, hydraulics/pneumatics4. Ability to troubleshoot and identify problems with mechanical hardware5. Fabrication and assembly skills and equipment - Machine tools, hand tools, power tools, precision measurement tools, prototype assembly practices, rigging, lifting, boring, drilling and tapping, lapping, doweling, lock-wiring, shimming, grinding, inspections6. Communications - written and verbal - Support development of test procedures, reports and briefings7. Support mechanical maintenance, repairs and upgrades, and support execution of system tests and demonstrations8. Travel as required to plant and other field sites for mechanical support, test execution, implementation of repairs and installation of engineering changes9. Typical Work Days are M-Th 10 hours per day, but candidate must be willing to work in excess of 60 hours per week for extended periodsPreferred Qualifications1. Military Background2. Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and identify problems with armored vehicles, automated equipment, heavy machinery, mobile or aerospace equipment, including PMCS and asset configuration management.3. Considerable analytical ability is required to extract and analyze data, note problem areas, prepare test procedures, and make limited calculations.4. Strong communication skills are required to work with and support engineers.
