Requires strong weld background required. Ability to develop detailed weld processes and provide daily shop floor support for welding and related activities. General Summary Under general supervision, provides technical support to manufacturing and related functions. Researches, develops, and improves very complex manufacturing processes, methods, and systems for products, facilities, fixtures, tooling, equipment, and/or materials. Develops and tests work methods and procedures, ensuring performance and quality of materials, products, and machines meet specifications and standards Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Researches, develops, and improves very complex manufacturing processes and systems for products, facilities, fixtures, tooling, equipment, and/or materials. 2. Conducts studies and tests, evaluates methods and procedures, and implements corrective action plans. 3. Analyzes various techniques, processes, or procedures for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency. 4. Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of facilities, equipment, and production flow. 5. May lead high level manufacturing engineering projects, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required 1. A level of general educational development and/or professional knowledge normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g., industrial, mechanical, metallurgical, or weld), mathematics, or related field. Certain positions may require a specific technical degree. 2. Nine years of related work experience in a manufacturing environment to gain a working knowledge of tooling, manufacturing processes, and process improvements. May require specialized technical knowledge. . 3. Strong weld background required. Ability to develop detailed weld processes and provide daily shop floor support for welding and related activities. 4. Requires knowledge in a wide variety of support activities including foaming, weld setup, welding procedure and performance qualifications, and some machining. Preferred Qualifications: 1. A high level of analytical ability to identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions to technical problems. 2. A high level of communication skills to collaborate with internal and external customers regarding manufacturing issues. 3. A high level of innovation to assist in the development and implementation new techniques, processes, or procedures. 4. Also requires excellent organizational skills 5. Familiarity with computer software (MS Word, Excel and Pro-E), and demonstrated ability to work toward continuous improvement in the areas of quality, schedule and cost. 2.
