GS is committed to force protection, from the current force to the future force, and from vehicle systems to individual soldiers. GS provides combat vehicle systems in major vehicle families - Bradley, M88, AAV, M113, M109 and M9 - that fulfill more than 20 different current force mission roles. As military forces confront threats around the world, GS is supporting the current force with vital enhancements to existing systems and offering new solutions to rapidly meet essential customer needs. As a key member of the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) Team, GS will help ensure the future success of U.S. soldiers on the battlefield developing and demonstrating five Manned Ground Vehicles that are part of the family of systems for FCS, including support for the Non-Line-of-Sight Cannon in 2008. GS fulfils another key role on FCS as the developer of the Armed Robotic Vehicle in two variants. These critical weapons will be the first in a new line of combat vehicles and systems that will empower soldiers through unmatched firepower, situational awareness and survivability. GS is also developing and delivering integrated survivability technologies from body armor inserts to active protection systems that provide a new level of soldier survivability and combat vehicle performance. The Mobility Analysis Group is tasked with designing and maintaining the propulsion systems for the Combat Systems heavy platforms (Bradley, Paladin, M113), Future Combat Systems (FCS, ARV), and Wheel Vehicles (MRAP, MMPV, and JLTV) vehicle platforms. As a senior mechanical engineer working within the Mobility Group, the candidate?s primary responsibilities will entail conducting automotive and thermal performance modeling of the Combat System?s Bradley and Paladin propulsion system and propulsion system components in steady state and dynamic conditions. The candidate will also perform trade studies to optimize and select engine, power transmission and cooling system components, develop requirement documents, engage in vendor discussions, develop proposal documents and lead source selection activities as well as prepare briefing materials documenting the engineering activities. The candidate will also be required to generate part and assembly level models in Pro-Engineer as well as supervise the work of 2 or more designers in generating system layouts. The collaborative within the Mobility Group will require good oral and written communication skills. Qualifications: * BSME with 9 years experience or MSME with 7 years experience * Experience in the development of power train and cooling systems is required. Military ground vehicle experience is preferred. * Experience in specifying, selecting and sizing propulsion system cooling system components including Fans, Pumps and Heat Exchangers required. * Experienced with trade studies is required * CFD analysis using CF-Design, KULI or Fluent highly desired. * Experience with Advanced EXCEL programming required * Familiarity with heat exchanger sizing software desired. * Working knowledge of MS Office applications * Strong written communication skills for preparing briefings and reports * Proficient in Pro-E modeling and assembly.
