Director of Heritage and Cultural Programs
The Presidio Trust is a Federal government corporation that manages and protects the Presidio of San Francisco as part of the National Park System. The Trust is now accepting applications for the following Federal excepted-service position.
DIRECTOR OF HERITAGE AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS
Develops, implements, and manages innovative, robust, state-of-the-art heritage and culture program that engages a broad spectrum of individuals from the community and across the nation. Oversees development, organization, and operation of Presidio heritage and culture program; manages development and operation of Presidio Heritage Orientation Center to meet informational needs of park visitors; manages development/operation of Archaeology Lab to provide direct support to all phases of the Trust’s archaeology program; engages local, regional and national partners to help create heritage and cultural programs of national distinction; interfaces with National Park Service, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and other partner organizations to effectively coordinate work on and support for heritage and cultural programs; implements Presidio art policy, managing Presidio collection, and ensuring ongoing conservation of works of art and artifacts; works with other Trust departments; participates in community outreach efforts concerning heritage and cultural programs; collaborates on the development of an advertising/marketing and outreach campaign for heritage and cultural programs; supports Trust philanthropic undertakings and develops written materials and presentations for use in fundraising; meets with prospective donors; manages multiple agreements/ contracts, determines skills needed for externally contracted resources, and manages or delegates management of externally contracted resources; develops and presents information to the Board of Directors, Trust management officials, and other staff teams; prepares a business plan, 5-year plan, and budget, and determines department staffing needs; manages and disseminates master schedules for Heritage and Cultural Programs-related projects and programs; represents the Trust at public meetings, conferences, professional meetings and in other public forums; and directly supervises 6-10 employees. Full time position with benefits.
Requires solid background in history/heritage and/or cultural programming, including a bachelors degree (masters preferred) and minimum of 10 years experience in heritage or cultural programs field or any similar combination of education and experience; AND a minimum of 5 years in a managerial position with staff supervision and budget responsibility. Must be experienced at assembling and overseeing a creative team, with sound organizational skills and proven track record in creating new institutions; comfortable/effective working in a group environment requiring team building, flexible multi-tasking and careful time and expense management; able to create a user-friendly facility that combines educational and entertainment elements in ways that communicate ideas and engage visitors of all ages; politically adept and astute at dealing with the community’s multiple stakeholders, and possess knowledge and experience building community relations and partnerships with other key organizations. Computer literacy is required.
