GS provides combat vehicle systems in major vehicle families - Bradley, M88, AAV, M113, M109 and M9 - that fulfill more than 20 different current force mission roles. As a key member of the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) Team, GS will help ensure the future success of U.S. soldiers on the battlefield developing and demonstrating five Manned Ground Vehicles that are part of the family of systems for FCS, including support for the Non-Line-of-Sight Cannon in 2008. GS fulfils another key role on FCS as the developer of the Armed Robotic Vehicle in two variants. These critical weapons will be the first in a new line of combat vehicles and systems that will empower soldiers through unmatched firepower, situational awareness and survivability. GS is also developing and delivering integrated survivability technologies from body armor inserts to active protection systems that provide a new level of soldier survivability and combat vehicle performance. The Designer shall develop and finalize parts, schematics, systems, and installations of varying complexity from design criteria supplied by the Supervising Engineer. Designers are responsible for the documentation of analyses, layouts, and designs up to and including final engineering drawings. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Produces 3D models of parts, assemblies and installation drawings for system or sub-system designs that are transferable throughout the organization. May conduct tests and investigations. Documents results. May develop expertise in a specialized area of design or analyses. Produces or oversees creation of finished engineering drawings. Performs calculations and analyses relating to problem assessment, design, and/or performance verification. Coordinates and monitors shop activities during development fabrication and reports progress. May provide and maintain plans to meet schedules and budget constraints. Participates as a member of a Product Development Team and in special projects. When assigned, assumes technical responsibility for a major portion (subsystem) of a design project . Share the responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor. Comply with Company safety policies and maintain a safe work environment. Position requires an AA Degree or equivalent and minimum of five years related Mechanical Design experience. PRO E experience required. Proficient in tolerance analysis and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Develop designs that are producible and designing to DOD-STD-100 Military Drafting Standards. Skilled in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting techniques including 3D modeling and manipulation of files. Duties may include providing direction to a design team in the completion of assigned projects. Designer must be able to use PC for written communications. Product line knowledge is required at the component, system, subsystem and/or vehicle levels.
