Compliance Inspector (Air Quality)
South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), headquartered in Diamond Bar, CA, 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, is one of the largest and most technologically sophisticated governmental, regulatory agencies in the nation. The work we do affects the quality of life of over 17 million people living in four Southern California counties.
We have several vacancies for AIR QUALITY INSPECTORS. Our Air Quality Inspectors regularly report to assigned field locations within our region where they inspect facilities and operations to determine compliance with AQMD rules and regulations, federal law and State statutes. Industry types that are inspected for compliance include large power plants and refineries, all sizes of industrial and manufacturing operations, retail gasoline service stations, landfills and waste site excavations, and demolition and land clearing for construction of homes or buildings. AQMD inspectors also respond to public complaints to resolve concerns about air quality. AQMD is sensitive to the impact of our actions on the communities and businesses within our jurisdiction and is fully committed to providing excellence in service and fair consideration to all.
Inspectors will report to headquarters weekly, but perform field work daily in an assigned area, such as West LA, Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Inland Empire, Riverside County, San Bernardino County & Orange County, and so on.
The most successful candidates will be diplomatic, professional, and able to establish good rapport and credibility with the public. They must also communicate technical and enforcement information clearly, sometimes under difficult and challenging circumstances. Those who possess the most competitive combination of education and experience will have an edge in contending for these positions. Finally, because we must earn and maintain the public’s trust, strong personal and work ethics are a must! AQMD is an organization you can be proud to work for, with a mission that makes a difference in the quality of life in Southern California
