The Southwest Florida Water Management is a regional governmental authority established by the Florida legislature to manage, regulate, and conserve the water resources within its district boundaries. The District is one of five regional water management districts, which covers an area of approximately 10,000 square miles and includes all or part of sixteen counties.
The mission of the Southwest Florida Water Management District is to manage water and related natural resources to ensure their continued availability while maximizing environmental, economic and recreational benefits. Central to the mission is maintaining the balance between the water need of current and future users while protecting and maintaining water and related natural resources which provide the District with its existing and future water supply. The programs that the District administers include, but are not limited to, flood protection, water use, well construction and environmental resource permitting, water conservation, education, land acquisitions, water resource and supply development and supportive data collection and analysis efforts.
Job Summary: Coordinates with various District departments to facilitate relations with external governmental entities. Develops liaisons with local governmental staff, local and state elected officials, chambers of commerce, and community-based organizations. Provides administrative expertise and policy-related assistance to department directors and Executive Staff. Coordinates water management projects, programs and activities between the District and local governments. Develops or coordinates responses to inquires regarding the District. Assists in development, maintenance, and enhancement of community and governmental relationships and public awareness. May assist with educational programs. Supports other departments in resolving specific concerns with governmental entities and community groups. Administers the District cooperative funding program and other special projects. Participates in District emergency management activities and other departmental activities and performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in political science, public administration, public relations or related field.Possession of a valid Florida Driver License is required. Experience involving controversial natural resources related issues; especially in the areas of inter-agency coordination and public contact and experience working for elected officials, is preferred.

Community Affairs Coordinator: Four years’ experience relating to local, state, or federal government operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary Range: $52,145.60 - $67,371.20 - $82,576.00
Sr. Community Affairs Coordinator: Six years’ experience relating to local, state, or federal government operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary Range: $58,156.80 - $76,356.80 - $94,536.00
