The British Consulate-General in Cambridge, MA has an opportunity for an intelligent, self-motivated individual to join the life sciences team as a member of UK Trade & Investment.
 JOB SUMMARY
UK Trade & Investment (www.uktradeinvest.gov.uk) is the United Kingdom Government's international business development agency focused on fostering transatlantic business relations between the US and UK. The advertised position is within the life sciences team and reports to the USA Lead Trade & Investment Officer for Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals.

Main duties of the position:
The Business Development Associate will support the Trade & Investment Officer and work as part of a team responsible for Life Sciences, with a US-wide responsibility for trade and investment work in the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical sectors. The focus will be to generate and deliver chargeable client work for UK companies looking to enter the US market, and to oversee the US biotech sector network business plan, including projects, budgets, and event planning. This is an entry-level position with strong potential for advancement within the organisation and building a broad life sciences professional network.

Specific duties include:
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Generate and deliver chargeable client work, including regional market research reports and strategy advice, for UK companies looking to enter the US market and support UK companies already active in the US. Reports and advice include but are not limited to financing, international strategic partnerships, and licensing deals.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Write and compile reports on specific topics relating to market developments, best routes to market and potential US business partners
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Provide assistance to US companies looking to set up or expand in the UK and support US companies already active in the UK market
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Proactively identify companies in the Life Sciences sector who would be interested in setting up or expanding their operations in the UK. Make initial contact and arrange meetings, attending where appropriate
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Assist in management of client relationships and projects.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Assist with initiatives such as the planning and execution of international trade missions, panel discussions, receptions and other events to promote the UK's Life Sciences market.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Co-ordinate as necessary with UKTI's internal network and partners, and with inward investment agencies of the English regions and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Develop and manage target list of companies for use on both the trade and investment sides, including the identification of mutual distribution networks
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Help gather and analyse information on both the North American and UK biotechnology, pharmaceutical and healthcare/medical device industries
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Assist with the management and distribution of information/resources to the US biotechnology and pharmaceuticals virtual team, located in the 8 US British Consulates and the British Embassy in Washington D.C.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Assist in the development of a wide range of high-level contact within the industry, including academia, federal /state/private research organisations, and state biotech groups
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Attend local industry seminars and conferences to report on developments potentially impacting the UK

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (FOR BOTH POSITIONS):
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Bachelor's degree, preferably in the life sciences field
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Ability and credibility to deal with companies/entities at a senior level in person and over the phone, with a proven track record of fostering business relationships
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Ability to provide clear, concise summaries and to respond to ad hoc requests at short notice using databases and other information sources
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Some experience/knowledge of the UK's inward investment and/or trade development activities and business environment is desirable
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â A self-starter able to work on own initiative with limited day-to-day supervision while operating as part of a wider US/UK team (with wide-ranging objectives)
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Strong research, reading comprehension, writing, and communication skills with attention to detail is essential
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is essential
