POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:

Reporting to the Bursar, the Associate Bursar participates in developing and implementing strategies, policies and procedures to ensure the prompt billing and timely collection of payments due the College for tuition and fees, financial aid, third party payments, tuition waivers, and miscellaneous business transactions. The Associate Bursar manages the daily office operations and staff responsible for the collection of all tuition and non-instructional fees, ensures the accurate recording and safeguarding of these funds, and enforces College and University policies regarding the collection of tuition and fees. Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Develops procedures to improve collections and assists in monitoring receivables. • Communicates and ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and internal controls for the accounting of cash and other payments and the deposit of said payments. • Analyzes office performance against College and University targets, plus other relevant benchmarks; makes and implements recommendations for improvement; and creates regular performance status reports. • Manages and trains staff to ensure that they provide exceptional customer service to students and all customers, and responds timely and professionally to all inquiries. • Partners with the Bursar to develop new and effective campus-wide outreach communication strategies to students using various media. • Collaborates with appropriate College offices to facilitate efficient interdepartmental workflow and communication. • Assists with the implementation of the new CUNYfirst ERP System, with a focus on the Student Financials Module. • Actively participates in training to understand the CUNYfirst system and prepare Bursar staff for transition to new technology and re-defined business operations as required. • Represents the Bursar at College and University meetings. • Manages the office and staff in the absence of the Bursar. • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor’s degree and at least six (6) years of relevant experience are required. The preferred candidate will have progressively responsible experience in a bursar's office or equivalent administrative experience in higher education institution. The successful candidate will be customer-focused and detailed-oriented, with the ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment. Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and projects, and meet deadlines are required. Must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as strong managerial and organizational skills. Experience managing and training staff required. Proficiency using student financial information systems and standard office software programs required. Ability to work late/evening hours during peak periods required.
