Analytical Laboratory Technician
Analytical Laboratory Technician Battelle is a world leader in science and technology research. Our Army/Marines/ Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Market Sector specializes in development of solutions to complex Weapons of Mass Destruction challenges facing the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and the OSD. The Battelle-Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (Battelle-ANCDF) Laboratory provides monitoring and analytical support for demilitarization of the chemical weapons stockpile located at the Anniston Army Depot. Battelle-ANCDF is seeking an Analytical Laboratory Technician at the Anniston, Alabama facility. The position is a full time, 12-hour rotating shift schedule (including weekends and holidays as required). Compensation will be based on the laboratory's certification pay plan, which includes entry level pay and certification pay levels 1-3. Compensation amounts increase as the employee progresses through the certification program. A full benefits package will be offered. Relocation support is not available. The selected candidate will work at a secure U.S. government, contracted facility. Primary job responsibilities will include the following: - Maintains documentation to support sample analysis and key accountability. - Performs aspects of instrument operation including calibration, operation and maintenance of GCs. Specific operations include sample analysis, data acquisition, data editing and providing data for instrument/data management system interfacing. - Performs wet chemical techniques such as pH and titrations. - Performs calculations in support of analytical and laboratory work. - Performs all duties associated with requisitioning supplies. - Inspects, tests, and maintains documentation for laboratory safety equipment. - Maintains documentation records, to include Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and updates Laboratory Operating Procedures (LOPs). - Supports routine and non-routine laboratory procedures and analysis to support plant operations. - Other duties as assigned. Additionally, the selected candidate must be willing to travel to off-site training locations and for business related purposes as applicable. Incumbent must wear seat belt when driving and riding in vehicles on government facility or on official business. Candidate resumes must demonstrate the following minimum requirements in order to be forwarded for consideration: - Associates Degree in a Physical or Life Science with at least two semesters of college chemistry and a minimum of one year of chemical laboratory experience OR a Bachelor of Science degree in a Physical or Life Science field. - Experience handling chemicals and familiarity with computers. Desired Qualifications: - Bachelor of Science or higher level degree in Chemistry. - 2-years hands-on experience operating GC instruments using FID and FPD detectors. - 1-year experience with mass spectrometry. - Knowledge of Agilent's ChemStation software. - Prior experience using LIMS systems. Incumbent will be involved in chemical laboratory operations and will handle dilute chemical agent solutions. Incumbent must successfully pass medical screening, including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE), lift up to 50 pounds, and work in the proximity of toxic chemicals. Incumbent will be required to complete the first certification level within 6-months of employment. Incumbent must be able to successfully complete an intense training path to be conducted at the Chemical Demilitarization Training Facility (CDTF) in Edgewood, MD. Must successfully complete training for the Analytical Laboratory's Certification Level 1 (Data Analyst) within six months after the date of appointment and will not be allowed to work unsupervised until certification requirements have been met. Incumbent must be a U.S. citizen, will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to be placed in a Public Trust position and the Unescorted Access Program (UAP) at the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (ANCDF). Must maintain a drug free work place, participate in annual and random urine testing, and periodic blood tests for cholinesterase level. Battelle enforces a safety culture whereby all employees have the responsibility for continuously developing and maintaining a safe working environment. Each incumbent is responsible for completing all training requirements and fulfilling self-aid/buddy-aid responsibilities, participating in emergency response tasks as requested, and serving on safety committees and teams as requested. In addition, the incumbent must accept the responsibility for maintaining the safety of themselves and others by adhering to all written and verbal instructions, promptly reporting and/or correcting all hazards or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to site leads and management on all safety issues. Incumbent must read, understand and comply with the general and specific operational, safety, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to this job and sign a statement acknowledging completion of this job requirement and their acceptance of the requirement to perform all procedure steps without deviation. This position is for the duration of the project only.
