Position: We are seeking a motivated, self-starter with experience as a supervisor. You will be responsible for operating a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment that provides heating and cooling for all the buildings in the Volpe Center complex. You will serve as a watch engineer and be responsible for shift operations where there is no supervisory guidance and assistance available. To succeed in this role, you should have a thorough knowledge of and experience in operating and performing routine maintenance on large capacity steam/lithium bromide chillers, York Screw chillers, chill water pumps, cooling tower fans, cooling tower pumps, water treatment apparatus, control air compressors, diesel gernerators, pneumatic control systems and John controls Metasys environmental control system. Duties include:· Checking temperature sensing points and adjusting controls to meet local needs;· Starting, regulating, and stopping the various items of air handling equipment from central and decentralized switches;· Performing tests and logging results on water condition, chiller oil levels, water temperatures, etc.;· Responding to calls within the six building complex: trouble-shooting problems ranging from minor plumbing problems to identification of malfunctions and making minor repairs to heating and cooling equipment. · Performing operator maintenance such as adding refrigerant, changing filters, cleaning strainers, replacing worn drive belts, etc.; · Performing repairs such as replacing valve plates, broken flares, and copper tubing; adjusting expansion valves; replacing small electric motors, etc.; and· Making entries into the Shift Operators Log Book to provide an accurate record of shift operations such as: equipment put in and taken out of operation, important phone calls received, personnel working in building, visitors to building, and any unusual circumstances.
