The Town of Dedham (population 22,809) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Planning/Economic Development Administrative Assistant for the Town of Dedham.  Works under the general direction of the Planning Board with administrative and operational supervision of the Planner and the Economic Development Director, following department rules and regulations and policies, requiring the ability to plan and perform operations and independently complete assigned tasks according to a prescribed time schedule. Responsible for managing the application process, including maintaining file, preparing and forwarding legal notices for publication and posting, distributing notices to all required or interested parties, recording and depositing filing fees and any other received department revenue. Provides assistance to applicants, attorneys, engineers, architects, developers and citizens to acquire information, to follow the appropriate steps and to prepare and submit information to the Board for action. Handles and reviews daily correspondence and refers to Board, Chairman, Planner and/or Economic Development Director as appropriate. Compiles information for payroll, processes invoices for payment, and secures department purchases, including office supplies. Ability to maintain detailed and extensive records and prepare reports. Ability to prioritize and work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines. Ability to interact tactfully, appropriately and effectively with the general public, public and professional representatives, state and federal agencies/agents and other town departments. Must possess demonstrated competence and skill in shorthand, speedwriting, and/or record transcription, typing and the use of application computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, data base software, power point and the like). Good oral and written communications and customer service skills. Skill in map, plan and blueprint reading desirable. High school diploma, including courses in office procedures, business and computer applications. Three years of office experience and dealing with the public, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in municipal setting preferred. Thorough knowledge of office practices and procedures, considerable knowledge of administrative policy and working knowledge of the technical aspects of planning and zoning, including applicable Massachusetts General Laws, local bylaws and rules and regulations. Salary Range is $38,317 to $47,112 with excellent fringe benefits.Â
