ADA Coordinator

Job Description: 

Serves as Agency’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator responsible for developing the agency's 504/ADA Plan and updates in collaboration with the agency's Civil Rights (CR) Title VI Specialist.  Conducts annual agency self-evaluation and monitors VDOT statewide  for compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitiation Act and ADA in employment programs and activities.  Works collaboratively with Facilities Managers to ensure statewide accessibility for persons with disabilities.  Implements the process for employees to request reasonable accommodations and monitors/tracks the activity data used in various reports.  Investigates internal and external discrimination complaints and prepares and/or reviews written findings reports.  Assists mangement  in responding to civil actions as needed by the Office of the Attorney General.  Conducts fact-findings on complaints filed externally with State or Federal regulatory agencies and prepares agency's response for submission by CR Director.  Develops and conducts training on ADA and other CR topics as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Considerable demonstrated knowledge of Federal civil rights laws and regulations, including the Civil Rights Act of 1964; the Civil Rights Restoration Act; 49 CFR Part 21; 23 CFR Part 200, 23 CFR Part 230.  Strong critical analysis skills.  Skills in consulting, identifying compliance issues, and negotiating.  Ability to be self-directed and work independently with little supervision.  Can effectively cope with change and can act without having the total picture. Provides time information.  Practices attentive and active listening.  Ability to independently analyze complex issues and make recommendations to management.  Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.  Ability to interact with diverse members of the public.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Prefer college degree in Public Administration, HR, or related field.  Experience providing mediation training.  Knowledge of VA State government and HR policies and procedures.
