R & D Scientist I
Seltzer Nutritional Technologies, a division of Seltzer Companies, INC., located in Carlsbad, CA is a leading manufacturer of nutritional premixes for the food and beverage industries. Our in-house laboratory, repacking/clean room, warehouse, and manufacturing facility ensure rapid and accurate responses to our customer requirements.
Summary: Responsible for formulating manufactured products, creating manufactured samples and pilot batches and fielding internal and external technical questions regarding manufactured products.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Food and beverage prototype development using novel nutritional ingredients
2. Communication with customer R & D personnel
3. Develop formulas and quotations based on customers’ requirements
4. Assist in blend sample formulation and preparation
5. Conduct sensory impact studies
6. Research application of ingredients
7. Ensure ingredient compliance to customer’s specifications
8. Troubleshoot application questions
9. Support the research and development of new ingredients, blends, processes, and finished products
10. Manage and maintain the inventory, equipment, and projects in the R & D laboratory
11. Participate on cross-functional teams for strategy and product development
12. Responsible for staying abreast of new and innovative products and industry needs
13. Research, evaluate, and approve various processes and raw materials for their use in manufactured products as needed
14. Resolve and answer technical inquiries on bulk ingredients and manufactured products as needed.
15. Other R&D responsibilities as needed.
Skills Required:
Minimum of B.S. in scientific field2 years experience in R&D, technical, or analytical research or applications developmentInterest in nutritional ingredients and food and beverage development Ability to weigh, calculate, and mix nutritional ingredients and formulasSelf-motivated, attention to detail, a passion for creativity and curious nature.Presentation skills preferredUnderstanding of regulatory compliance with cGMP, GRAS, and HAACP preferred.Moderate travel may be requiredAbility to go up and down stairs frequently
