RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position reports to a Vice President and will supervise the plant wide QC/QA department and various technical positions. Responsibilities also include developing and implementing QC/QA programs for fresh-pack and fresh-cut processes. Conduct audits of production facilities to ensure company standards are maintained and product integrity is preserved. Consult with management to resolve quality, production, and efficiency problems. Function as an information source to management and various company departments when special and critical quality issues occur. Function in conjunction with R&D Manager on special department projects. This position description/summary reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.Develop and implement QC/QA programs for fresh-packing and fresh-cut pomegranate facilities in accordance with directives from local, state and federal agencies.Confirm that plant audit procedures are properly carried out and assigned work schedules are maintained.Determine overall product quality by conducting and evaluating various product tests and tests related to ingredients and packaging.Resolve major quality problems at fresh-packing and fresh-cut production facilities, warehouses, and market areas as required.Evaluate and take corrective action when necessary with regard to product date coding and trade age management at all levels of product movement.Educate and instruct plant personnel in recommended QC testing, equipment and general sanitation as well as good housekeeping practices. Ensure these procedures are continuously maintained.Consult with plant management and personnel on better operational procedures to improve overall efficiency and product yields.Discuss plant evaluation with plant management, make appropriate recommendations and set timetable for improvement and corrections.Function as an information source for management, and other departments when critical quality issues arise.Prepare plant evaluation reports and submit them to management.Assist in development of special department projects and work in conjunction with R&D Manager.Accept responsibility of training and preparing new employees for this position.Supervise workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity.Coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures.Provide, and oversee, inspection activity for product throughout production cycle.Maintain active role on internal Continuous Improvement teams.
MISCELLANEOUS FUNCTIONS:Keep abreast of current technical progress by participation in technical groups and research of pertinent technical literature.Prepare progress reports and insures that all appropriate functional executives receive copies of these reports.Prepare and present papers and reports of a technical nature as required.Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.Is responsible for ensuring that the company is in compliance with all food safety guidelines pertaining to this industry. Shares responsibility for making sure that products manufactured at this facility meet the quality expectations of our customers.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:
A commitment to carrying out the POM Wonderful Quality Policy is required. An employee in this position must focus on post harvest research, product quality, prevent problems, and strive for continuous improvement resulting in improved results for internal and external controls, customer service and a collaborative environment.
An employee in this position works in an environment in which safety, environmental and health concerns may demand constant attention. Strict adherence to Corporate and/or Plant policies, rules, and regulations in these areas is required.
Work is carried out in a Research and Development storage facilities, analytical laboratory, or plant operators. Library work may be required. The position will involve project management as well as effective coordination and communication with the Senior Management, Operations, Research Associates, and Marketing & Sales Department. In addition, there will be interaction with Plant Production and Quality Control Departments. Travel to other plant sites and with Marketing & Sales to visit customers is necessary. (Establishing a working relationship with customer's technical personnel is an important part of the job).
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may subject to variant temperatures. The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to eye protection, gloves, protective shoes, protective clothing, and in the plant, a hard hat. The employee occasionally will work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Micro Biology, Food Engineering or Food Science2 – 4 years experience field, laboratory, or production facility sanitation and QC/QA.Experience with QC/QA management in fresh-cut processes is necessary.Working experience with Statistical Process Control is desired.Ability to perform as a manager of job responsibilitiesAbility to work within a team environment and with external partnersPost-Offer Physical & Drug Screen.
