Plant Superintendent

Maintain and execute the policies and procedures prescribed by Dean Foods, the General Manager and the Plant Manager.  Implement and maintain Company manufacturing policies, procedures and production control programs.  Ensure the adequate definition of position responsibilities for all personnel directly supervised, and provide appropriate facilities for them to carry out those responsibilities. Supervise the Berkeley Farms/Deanfoods program of sanitation and housekeeping, ensuring standards are appropriately met and maintained. Ensure that proper maintenance, housekeeping and equipment cleaning is performed on a timely basis so as to conform to prescribed standards and objectives. Coordinate the flow of reporting from plant to production office to general office. Establish and maintain an appropriately high level of interface and communications with plant supervision, including daily reviews of scheduled/planned production and corresponding performance, problems and corrective actions required. Ensure plant efficiency and plant safety is maintained at appropriately high levels through: reviewing daily/weekly downtime reports with supervisors and maintenance superintendent; defining action plan; following up on accident reports with employees and attending monthly safety meetings. Ensure ongoing product reconciliation and inventory control through weekly reviews of mix and cheese losses and daily monitoring of inventory levels in cooler, and daily monitoring of cases, skids and case sorting program. Ensure plant housekeeping is maintained to, or above, target levels.  Ensure conformance with good manufacturing practices (GMP’s), maintain awareness of employee personal hygiene, employee and supervisory and employee concerns, and attend and follow up on issues addressed at housekeeping meetings. Maintain awareness of, and involvement with, plant union/labor relations.  Ensure proper implementation of contract and work rules, constancy and timeliness of discipline, and maintenance of seniority list for full time, associate and vacation relief employees. Assume overall responsibility for completion and review of labor schedules, and overtime levels. Job Requirements: Preferably in dairy plant operations or food industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Oversee all aspects of the production side of the business from raw receiving, to planning, to production in our 24 hour a day 7 days a week dairy facility Insure full compliance with all GMP and quality assurance standards Must be able to work well with others, train and supervise staff, handle multiple tasks effectively, able to organize work, formulate policy, plan budgets, motivate employees, direct activities, multi-task, assess, evaluate and solve problems. Bachelor’s degree preferred as well as a minimum of 10 years in a food production facility. Must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of regulatory laws and responsibilities as relative to processing and filling and general facility standards.  Team orientation, which includes the ability to work with the individuals at all levels of the organization. Strong leadership skills and an ability to mentor and develop staff. Basic understanding of budgeting, cost control, and federal milk market reporting.
