HR Generalist
Typical duties of an HR Generalist include:
Participate in the development and maintenance of complex human resource programs, systems and studies in assigned functional area(s)
Review, analyze and participate in development and implementation of operational policies and procedures; counsel administrators and employees on human resource policies and rules, identifying and resolving problems or recommending courses of action
Assist in conducting labor negotiations and concluding agreements dealing with labor groups; discuss issues with business agents and/or bargaining units; administer and/or interpret labor-management agreements; advise management and union officials in development, application and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices
Participate in career development issues, discussing career paths with line managers and recommending suitable candidates for promotion
Participate in staffing process, discussing needs with line managers and assisting with recruitment and selection efforts; conduct classification audits; prepare analysis
Investigate and advise both management and employees on personnel matters; prepare briefing reports and documentation
Gather data; develop reports, analyses, publications and/or other presentations for use in formulating goals and objectives of the program (such as research and recommend appropriate course of action based on past, current or future trends, and analyze cost of various proposals)
Assist in training or orientation of new employees
Bachelor's Degree. Credit for a major in a program that included (or was supplemented by) at least 15 semester hours in Human Resource Management or a closely related field. A Master's degree in HRM, Labor Relations or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required Experience listed below.
Three (3) years of progressively more responsible work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories and practices used in human resource management, two (2) years of which were in performing duties similar to the next lower level in this series.

Human resource principles, practices and procedures (Extensive level)
Federal, state and local laws, rules and/or regulations affecting HR administration (Extensive level)
Prevailing contracts, expiration dates and current union practices
MS Office software package
Ability to
Handle administrative tasks
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a wide variety of people
Multi-task and work with frequent distractions
Write and edit reports, policies, procedures and other materials
Operate electronic and/or standard office equipment
Maintain confidentiality
Skill in
Organizing, analyzing and interpreting data
Project management
Customer service and dealing with a wide variety of people at all levels
