Food Product Development and Quality Control Specialist

We are a mid size bakery ingredient and product manufacturer who is looking for an educated individual for product development and quality control.  We are located in Western Pennsylvania with facilities in Pittsburgh, Pa. and Hermitage, Pa.

The job position is Product Development and Quality Control Specialist

The product development consists of two distinct objectives.  Objective one is to create new food items that fit into our existing product line.  This will be accomplished by working with a group of employees.  The group will determine what is to be developed.  The development will be up to you.  Records must be kept to verify ingredient changes, cost changes, direction changes, etc.  Tastings by other employees should be used to make sure the taste profile originally desired is being achieved.

Objective two is to review and improve our current recipes.  Make change recommendations to improve the products taste, shelf life, eye appeal, freeze/thaw quality, etc.

Quality control consists of making sure each item meets our quality specifications.   Each item has a set of specifications that determine if the product is up to our standards.  Your responsibility is to test  the products as they come from the manufacturing facility to make sure they meet our test standards.   Testing will involve analytical evaluations as well as baking off certain items.  

Other aspects of the job  include, but are not be limited to, keeping track of the Kosher information, calculating nutritional information and ingredient statements, and  attending sales meetings.

We are looking for an individual with a college degree in food technology or other food related field.  Some experience in food development is expected.
