Converting Supervisor
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Converting Manager create and manage manufacturing practices and processes that will contribute to continuous improvement ideas and actions. Lead and support activities to improve team members’’ knowledge, skills and abilities to proactively troubleshoot and resolve production challenges. Develop and maintain production schedules and follow-up to ensure schedules are met. Supervise the movement of all raw materials and finished goods in and between departments, shifts, and operations in accordance with production schedules to facilitate a timely and uninterrupted flow of production. Analyze manufacturing capacity constraints and provide recommendations on how to reduce their impact on the production process. Expedite rush or special orders, cancellations, order changes and material shortages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Converting manager, supervise, coordinate and direct activities of team members in the Converting Department by performing the following, but not limited to:
1) Creates production schedules for the converting plant and monitors production utilization, both hours and pounds per man hour in an effort to maximize plant efficiencies and productivity.
2) Trains converting team members in all areas of the feed room, trucking, paperwork and packaging positions, including; JDE access, first-in, first-out procedure, proper documentation of inventory reports, lot look-up, proper scanning procedures for all finished goods moves, etc.
3) Trains converting team members in the process flow, including; proper changeover techniques, organizational skills and cross-checks for verification of specification by product code.
4) Monitors and controls downtime by identifying chronic issues and eliminating their source using Maintenance and Converting Manager as resources.
5) Develops and implements program activities designed to enhance production flow.
6) Communicates problems and production changes with converting team members and the Converting Manager and provides recommendations to overcome or eliminate any future or ongoing issues.
7) Promotes safety and assures that proper safety policies and procedures are being followed by all converting team members.
8) Communicates break-downs with Maintenance and Converting Manager and writes work orders to facilitate the repairs.
9) Assists in solving problem areas through observation, procedural change, team member behavior modification, work orders and inspection.
10) Reinforces company policies and procedures in an effort to build positive team member relations among all team members and works to help achieve their personal and organizational goals.
11) Communicates to subordinates changes in company policy or any other operations related procedure.
12) Schedules team members according to the plant production needs.
13) Works directly with Maintenance Department in order to minimize downtime and coordinate equipment tear down.
14) Provides Converting Departments with all necessary production information and paperwork.
15) Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Proficient in Word, Excel, JD Edwards and Cylce-CountingAbility to work one-on-one as well as in a group.Good understanding of people management skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associates of Arts Degree (A.A) and 3 to 5 years supervisory experience in a food manufacturing in a production or Quality assurance role or equivalent combination on education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents, including but not limited to; safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, batch tickets, recording charts, equipment readouts, and procedural manuals, etc. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak effectively before individual employees or departments.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and acid or caustic cleaning chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED
Motorized pallet truck, hand dolly, stretch wrap machine, hand knives, hand tools, calculator, Box tape machine, and Case Printer and Data collection device. Robotic palletizer and metal detector. JDEdwards.
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Steel toe boots or shoes, cotton gloves for warmth, solid rubber boots during general clean up, latex rubber gloves when sampling product, face shield and liquid and chemical repellent apron when handling chemicals, hair net and beard net and hearing protection and any other applicable PPE.
