PLEASE NOTE THIS JOB IS IN CHICAGOJob DescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY: The Senior Java Developer reports to the Fix Development Manager and participates in the design, development and maintenance of Fix communication software within the NYSE Euronext Exchange. This position will ensure the development and continuous evolution of the system software and help improve the processes and procedures under the guidance of the Fix Development Manager.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and maintain Fix communication software.
2. Support existing product development to determine where improvements or enhancements are needed to maximize reliability, system uptime, high throughput and low latency.
3. Evolve the system by adding new business and functional requirements without sacrificing the benchmarks or destabilizing the system.
4. Participate in the team wide code reviews. Earnestly explore and help promote code reuse.
5. Support, assist and resolve operational and system production issues.
6. Assist in development and maintenance of design, procedural and operational documents to meet business requirements.
7. Assist in development and maintenance of standardized approaches and documentation of repetitive tasks.
8. Work with Quality Assurance team on test plans, defect tracking, change control and support release management.
9. Support and assist in application production deployment roll out and post deployment issues.
10. Actively explore and learn relevant and evolving new technologies, concepts that help evolve the system.
11. Actively learn the ever growing/changing financial, capital markets, trading business and impact of technology on the business.
12. Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.


Requirements:
The position requires strong hands-on Java programming knowledge and experience with the software development life-cycle. While strong design and implement skills are critical, the candidate should have experience with peer code reviews and designing unit tests. Preferred candidates will possess methodical approach to problem solving and must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred candidate will have a proven ability to work independently and with in a team environment.


Experience:
Candidate should have several years hands-on Java programming experience. Candidate must have strong and proven technical, problem-solving and analytical skills. The applicant must possess rich experience in implementing business critical software systems using proven programming methodologies and paradigms that includes but not limited to object-oriented analysis and design.

Required:

o Experience developing network communication software with both TCP and UDP

o Strong Java programming skills

o Proven experience in writing UNIX scripts to myriad system functions

o Adept in handling enterprise source control, build and release management tools

o Experience and knowledge using stable and proven open source frameworks and tools

o Experience with Full Lifecycle software development

o Strong software debugging and profiling skills

o Experience working on Unix/Linux platforms

Preferred:
o Familiarity with Fix protocol

o Functional, working knowledge of fixed income, equity and derivatives market


Education:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, finance, business, Math or equivalent. Master's is preferred.
