The team is responsible for the "engineer, design, build" steps of service delivery, the packaging of DBMS solutions for the operational DBA teams. These efforts span lines of business, operational technologies, and RDBMS technologies (i.e., MSSQL, Oracle, and Sybase). This team member will manage small- to medium-sized projects from identification and researching of technologies and solutions all the way to post implementation upgrades to enhance data management at Capital Group. This team member will be responsible for identifying problems and developing solutions spanning RDBMS technologies down the stack to Unix/Windows operating systems, storage, and networking. The process includes working with technical and non-technical peers in multiple forums to incorporate feedback and move solutions through the governance processes. An understanding and interest in subjects such as database reference architectures, DBMS high availability, encryption, security, partitioning, clustering, storage, networks, vendor management, and rigorous product evaluation (scorecards, lab setup, etc) is expected. This team member shall initiate projects, build teams of stakeholders, lead, and document projects (evaluations, POCs, and deployments). Necessary skills include DBMS theory, data management best practices, script enhancement and development, and hands-on ability with internal RDBMS technologies. This team member will also be responsible for ancillary support tasks to include management of the DBA web portal and the department computing resources, configuration databases, and other supporting tasks as assigned. The successful candidate’s core skills will include proficient and audience-targeted verbal and written communication skills. A proven record of successful management of small to medium projects using approved standard methodologies is expected. The candidate should feel comfortable sharing knowledge and mentoring others on new technology. The ability to work with small to large teams, effect change, and interact effectively with technology teams and management to share complex topics is essential. The ability to balance multiple assignments concurrently is expected. A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field of study is a plus. Database certifications are a plus.Qualifications Strong data management expertise, including DBMS theory, data integrity, security, and performance Six years experience with Sybase database platform as administrator, engineer, or equivalent Experience with UNIX (HPUX and Solaris) and shell scripting Experience with SUN and/or HP based hardware platforms Strong understanding of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level 24x7 production support for RDBMS environments Knowledge of the development lifecycle used for the applications Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
