PHP Developer / Systems Administrator

RateGenius is looking for the newest member of its emerging, fast-paced IT Department. The IT Department is a small, agile team of seasoned veterans, looking for fresh ideas. This position is for an entry-level team member, with unlimited opportunities for future career growth.

Daily job responsibilities will include: Building and maintaining components of RateGenius’ robust and extensive IT infrastructure. Interfacing with fellow RateGenius team members and business partners, and limited interaction with end-consumers, to deliver the highest-quality technology services possible. Developing the next generation of web-based software platforms. Participating in an on-call rotation for care and maintenance of the production servers. Occasional travel to RateGenius’ data center, and occasional non-standard work hours. 

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: Experience in object-oriented software development in PHP 4 or PHP5. Experience in SQL database development, preferably in MySQL. Experience in HTML, CSS, and Javascript development. Experience with code repositories, preferably Subversion. Experience with Linux environments is a must. Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows XP desktop environment, and the Microsoft Server 2003 environment, including Active Directory, and file and print sharing. Good working knowledge of PC hardware installation and troubleshooting.

 

Applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas will betreated with the highest priority: Experience in the jQuery framework. Apache server administration – installation, configuration, maintenance, mod_rewrite, mod_ssl, and PHP configuration. MySQL database administration – installation, configuration, maintenance, InnoDB tablespace maintenance, replication, and backup/restore. PHP administration – installation, configuration, and environment customization. Linux system administration – installation, configuration, maintenance, and system updates. Server administration – Postfix mail server, and DNS. Linux shell programming. LAN/WAN network administration - installing routers and switches, network wiring (CAT5/6, Ethernet, fiber, WiFi), troubleshooting networks, and firewalls.
