We currently have an opening for a Manager Market Risk Summary Description: Penson Financial Services, Inc. has a number of business activities that generate market risk. These businesses include QEG, Prime Brokerage, stock loan, treasury, financing and the correspondent business. Market risk is the potential loss of capital due to fluctuations in the price of securities.
The Manager Market Risk is responsible to own and lead the market risk process within the Company through establishing and implementing policies to protect the Company from potential market losses by identifying, analyzing, measuring, controlling and monitoring market risk using best industry practices.
Position Responsibilities:
Produces high quality market analyses of all PFSI business activitiesServes as lead and is responsible for devising a market risk document which defines acceptable standards and parameters within a Global Credit/Risk frameworkWorks closely with each product area to make a complete assessment of all market risks Serves as a Portfolio Manager with responsibility for the continuous monitoring of market riskBecomes the point person for the Portfolio Margining productPrepares and implements business market metrics to ensure that each business activity can be monitored by the Credit/Market Risk committeeEnsures that market risks are in compliance with regulatory requirementsPerforms industry peer comparisons on a variety of operational and financial indicatorsPrepares, plans, leads and implements a proven and acceptable methodology for the analysis of market risk (i.e., VAR)Reviews existing policies and procedures and makes recommendations for improvements with regard to market risk
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Operational Research or related field; or equivalent work experienceMinimum 5-10 years experience in the financial services industry, preferably as a Market Risk ManagerIn-depth knowledge of Portfolio Margining and other margin and financial productsIn-depth knowledge of VAR and it’s applicationsStrong quantitative skills; excellent analytical and problem solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills are requiredVery strong market risk management skills, specifically knowledge of various measures of market risk, hedging techniques, and market-to-market valuation of various productsPrepared to study for and achieve the PRIMIA qualificationsDisplays relentless focus on customer service and customer satisfactionHolds self accountable for high personal and professional standardsDemonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities/tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environmentExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work with other individuals to achieve mutual satisfaction and results, including negotiation skillsDemonstrated ability to handle administrative details and routine day-to-day issues independently, assuming responsibility without direct supervisionComputer proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook; database tools such as Access and SQL; statistical software such as SAS
Additional qualifications preferred but not required:
Masters and/or PhD in quantitative field preferredCompletion of a major corporate bank credit training program is a plus
