Summary:
This position is directly responsible for the management and supervision of daily operation and performance of the accounting/financial activities of the division and processing of financial transactions. Analyzes and reviews financial data, prepares financial statements and reports for both internal and external purposes. Resolves a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of the division's goals of the business and with good knowledge of GAAP. This position is available on both a part-time (minimum 21hours / week) and a full-time basis.
Key responsibilities include:
· Ensure efficient and effective accounting operations, including monthly closing for the division, the subsidiaries and the affiliates – income statement and balance sheet preparation for Energy Division, Kansas Energy and Shoreline Gas (separate and consolidated).
· Produce monthly income statements and balance sheets for the General Manager and the PRU Managers.
· Monitor financial and operational risks (interest rates and market conditions) to comply with US GAAP rules.
· Work closely with Accounting and Business Planning as and when required – monitors report deadlines and prepares special reports requested by Accounting.
· Assist to create a sound system of internal controls for newly acquired subsidiaries/affiliates – informs what our requirements are for internal controls and assists in implementation of internal controls.
· Responsible for responding to recommendations and requests of internal and external auditors; reports inventory details.
· Responsible for preparing the Division's budget materials and forecast for quarterly budget meetings.
Knowledge and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or a minimum of 8 years equivalent experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of financial/accounting function. Prior knowledge of investment industry and Energy Business is a plus.
· Excellent communication and strong project management skills
· Must be approachable and be able to communicate on all levels with a professional manor
· Detail oriented and self direct
· Must be able to respond to deadlines at short notice
· Highly proficient in Microsoft Office
· Excellent working knowledge of Excel formulas
· Ability to analyze and correlate financial data from multiple sources
· SAP and/or HFM knowledge is plus
