PURPOSE OF ANNOUNCEMENT:  Maine Revenue Services seeks an economist for its Economic Research Division. The Economic Research Division provides tax analysis to key Executive and Legislative branch policy makers relating to revenue forecasting and revenue estimates of proposed changes to the state’s tax laws.              Â
DESCRIPTION; This position will assist in the creation of tax-related databases, the development and maintenance of tax models for forecasting and estimating, the preparation of Legislatively mandated studies, and the estimation of the revenue impact and policy implications of proposed legislation. Interested individuals must be able to work independently, as well as with a diverse group of organizations and individuals both from within and outside of state government. The ability to communicate complex economic and tax related issues, both orally and in writing, to other government agencies, elected officials, academics, the media and the public is essential. The Economic Research Division is often required to analyze legislation within a short time period; therefore only individuals who are comfortable in a fast paced environment should apply.  Â
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Eight (8) years education and/or experience which would provide in-depth knowledge of economics and economic modeling and analysis. Preference will be given to applicants with A Bachelor’s degree with significant course work in economics and statistics, and experience in applied economic research, economic analysis, statistical analysis, or the development of economic data bases
