Job Summary

 

Responsible for implementing the strategies and policies developed by the Governor’s Economic Growth Strategy to attract foreign direct investment, and assist NJ companies in expanding export opportunities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Develops and executes plans for implementing the strategies and policies developed by the Governor’s Economic Growth Strategy, including:Increases foreign direct investment into the state through programmatic focus. Establishes baseline measures and quarterly metrics relative to the state’s target industries, target countries and peer states.Creates and manages programs to support the growth of state export markets. Establishes metrics and quarterly reports relative to target industries, countries and peer states.Coordinates and manages direct trade shows, foreign direct investment seminars and export conferences for selected industry sectors or country destinations.Manages and coordinates small tactical trade missions to selected international markets, identifying specific global/commercial opportunities for NJ businesses. Participates in the EDA Strategic Business Planning process to create strategies which maximize the use of EDA’s assistance products in meeting objectives, and coordinates with EDA’s Business Development and Customer Solutions Divisions to assist companies and enhance EDA’s product line in support of strategy. Develops annual budget for unit and manages organization’s resources within those budget guidelines.

 Serves as a state representative in meetings involving international trade.Represents the EDA’s Division of Commerce at events, meetings, ceremonies, etc.Helps foster relationships with governmental and diplomatic communities.Hosts visits by foreign delegations and arranges meetings for such delegations with appropriate New Jersey entities.

 Identifies partnership opportunities to maximize resources and coordinates with federal and regional counterparts to ensure achievement of unit objectives.Ensures compliance with MOUs with foreign governments, the US Chamber and other federal partners to support the state’s goals.Performs special functions or direct special projects at the request of the VP of Commerce Division.Prepares clear, sound, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.Oversees the development of informational backgrounds on foreign countries to use as briefing documentations for senior staff.Coordinates activities with other state and regional entities involved in international trade, including the foreign consulates, Port Authority of NY/NJ and the Delaware River Port Authority.

 Builds, develops, measures and coaches members of direct report team.

 Manages and supervises the unit staff to achieve the goals of the Division.

Education and Experience Requirements

 

§ Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Public or International Affairs, Economic Development and/or equivalent professional experience

§ Minimum five years management experience in an international working environment

Position Requirements

 

Must comply with Executive Order 10, dated February 28, 2002, which requires filing of a financial disclosure statement.

 

Must complete a Conflict of Interest Law, Disclosure of Outside Office or Employment Statement form annually.
