SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Estate Specialist 1 attempts to locate debtors, debtors' representatives, and/or debtors' assets to secure payments; prepares files for legal action; and prepares and files legal documents by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 Mails letters to debtors' representatives to notify and encourage payment of outstanding balances.Confers with debtors' representatives by telephone in attempt to determine potential collectibles from estate or other assets of decedent and review terms of sales, service, or credit contract.Calculates payment arrangements and negotiates settlements which may require attorney/client approval.Documents information about financial status of estate and status of collection efforts.Performs data entry to update notes on account.Prepares files for further legal action, ensuring all required procedures and paperwork are accurate, complete, and in accordance with client guidelines and applicable state laws.Files lawsuits and claims.Identifies potential after date of death charges, the party responsible for making charges, and recommends appropriate actions to clients.Monitors files to ensure complete service of documents; locates additional addresses to complete service as necessary. Reviews and attempts to resolve rejected claims and/or forwards to attorney for further action.Prepares miscellaneous correspondence and documents.Contacts clients, debtors' representatives, attorneys, and courts for status updates and to request/supply additional information and documentation.Reviews payments.Searches Internet, public and postal records, city and telephone directories, credit bureau reports, and contacts employer to locate information pertaining to debtor or representative or assets.Photocopies and faxes materials. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of 6 months relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
