Planned Giving Officer

Responsibilities include: Identify, cultivate and solicit planned gift prospects – including developing ways to find new prospects, following up on inquiries, working with prospects to educate them as to planned gift possibilities, soliciting and closing outright and planned gifts (irrevocable and revocable, including gift annuities, pooled income fund, charitable remainder trusts, life insurance, charitable lead trusts, bequests and other estate gifts, and other deferred giving arrangements). This will require interacting with prospects, donors, family members, attorneys, advisors, representatives of financial institutions and others. With Director, facilitate design, production and implementation of marketing initiatives to raise awareness and interest in planned gifts, including informational seminars, promotion pieces, mailings to targeted populations, and other initiatives. Serve as resource to Development staff on gift planning issues, work with gift officers, volunteers and others to develop strategies, prepare proposals, participate in joint visits and provide support. With Director and Assistant Manager, Planned Giving, manage the BSO’s Planned Giving recognition group, the Walter Piston Society, including stewardship of donors, and developing and implementing individual and group recognition opportunities. Also, other projects as needed. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Interest and/or background in the arts.  Minimum of four years development experience, including major and/or planned giving with a proven track record of closing commitments of $25,000 or more and knowledge of planned giving concepts. Knowledge of prospect management systems or proven ability to work within electronic environment and to learn new database systems and software. Excellent social, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.  Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills. Experience working with high-level decision makers, trustees, and other volunteers. Ability and flexibility to travel and attend concerts and other events, as necessary, to achieve goals.
