Web Master/Communications Manager

WEB MASTER/COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER, Admissions Office, to serve as the office's lead web and communications strategist. Will provide direction and oversight of the MIT admissions web community (mitadmissions.org), including writing, editing, design, workflow, and content management; manage the MIT Admissions web presence, including supervising twelve-plus student bloggers and coordinating a variety of faculty and staff authors; and serve as the office's presence in various Web 2.0 communities, including Facebook and College Confidential. Additional duties include participating in the development of other web and print recruitment materials, serving as the office's internal writer and editor, engaging in the review and selection of freshman applicants, and delivering presentations during several weeks of fall recruitment travel. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with students, pushing the boundaries of traditional communications, and translating the culture of MIT to the web, foremost through primary source narratives.

REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's degree; three to five years of experience in a communications-intensive setting developing a wide spectrum of content; up-to-date knowledge of web communications technology and software (hand-coding HTML and CSS, Photoshop, etc.); and writing and editorial experience. Strong understanding of Web 2.0 initiatives and culture preferred, as is experience generating content specifically for the web. Experience developing web communities a plus. Experience with blogging software such as Movable Type strongly preferred. Experience communicating with high school and college students also preferred.
