Switch Engineer

Job ID: 147078Position Description: Responsible for maintaining the integrity of multiple MSCs (Mobile Switch Complex), must be proficient in the monitoring and maintenance of all the major network switch components, transmission facilities and power equipment in the MTSO complex. Responsibilities may include performing hardware installations, provisioning, routine maintenance on switching equipment and power plants, interpreting reports. Utilizes troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve complex system hardware/software faults and serves as main point of contact on service impairments or outages working with vendors or other departments on restoration activities. Investigates and responds to customer trouble reports with other departments/vendors. Individual coordinates with other carriers to perform acceptance testing or troubleshooting transmission facilities to ensure all applicable Bell Core Standards are met. Candidate uses sophisticated electronic test equipment, measuring devices, and hand tools in analyzing, installing, repairing or maintaining the MTSO complex. Maintain switch logs and other documentation for system support or record requirements. Moves and/or lifts material that can weigh up 60 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, must be able to kneel, crouch or work in uncomfortable positions to accomplish tasks. Individual should have general skills with Personal Computers for communication and workload assignments, familiar with MS office applications. Candidate must possess ability to work with minimal supervision. Candidate must be willing to work day, evening or night hours. Overtime or emergency call-outs, weekends or holidays as well as 24 hours on call duty.Qualifications:Candidate must have strong switching background with Nokia GSM, Nortel Core and Media Gateway, Ericsson RNC and True Position EMS experience. Candidate must have strong background with transmission facilities, i.e. DS1, DS3, OC3, OC12, OC48 and OC192 as well as DACS, ATM and SS7 background. Candidate should have experience with UNIX and IP architecture, Alcatel 1631 Alcatel 1671 Alcatel 1630 and Tellabs 8860. UMTS experience a plus. Five years related technical training and equivalent experience.This position is classified as an AT&T Mobility driving job.
