Supplier Quality and Reliability Engineer
Job Summary: Responsible for developing and implementing a supplier quality improvement and monitoring process that optimizes the supplier performance to achieve improved product quality and sustained for Crane Merchandising Systems (CMS)—Vending Solutions. Reports to the VP Operations –STL and works with supply chain, engineering and other leadership team members to develop annual supplier quality objectives. Responsibilities: · Analyzes preliminary engineering-design concepts of vending machine and components, to recommend design or test methods for attaining customer-specified operational reliability, using knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies: Analyzes preliminary plans and develops reliability engineering program to achieve customer reliability objectives.· Analyzes projected product utilization and calculates cumulative effect on final system reliability of individual part reliabilities. · Drafts failure mode and effect analysis sheets or formulates mathematical models, using computer-aided engineering equipment, to identify units posing excessive failure risks and support proposed changes in design.· Advises and confers with engineers and procurement professionals in design review meetings to give reliability findings and recommendations. · Determines units requiring environmental testing and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data. Reviews subcontractors' proposals for reliability program and submits evaluation for decision. · Reviews engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements. · Observes conduct of tests at supplier, plant, or field locations to evaluate reliability factors, such as numbers and causes of unit failures. Monitors failure data generated by customer using product to ascertain potential requirement for product improvement. · This position is responsible for the development, maintenance and improvement of supplier metrics related to supplier quality, on-time delivery (OTD) and lead time. · Develop, implement and maintain a Supplier Scorecard that monitors supplier quality, delivery and a host of other metrics that track the general performance of the supplier.· Maintain the Supplier Scorecard for each supplier and report monthly on metrics and supplier score. Use this tool to work with suppliers to improve quality and other metrics through Six Sigma, Lean/DMAIC processes of continuous improvement.· Lead supplier Quarterly CMS Reviews by supporting the Supply Chain team in assessing supplier performance monitoring corrective action status and driving supplier to continuous improvement.· Liaise with CMS site Quality teams and suppliers to assure that quality issues are addressed and corrective actions are in place and being properly managed to assure root cause analysis and corrective action reporting.· Actively engage and understand trends in the industry’s approach to quality and new approaches that may provide benefit to CMS.· Promote and support Operational Excellence and professionalism with the CMS Supply Chain functions. · Conduct assessments of suppliers’ quality system & process control capability, and develop/drive implementation of improvement plans. · Train and work with suppliers to develop quality control plans for assigned commodities and drive implementation.· Conduct first article and first batch audit inspections.Job Requirements: · Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Quality Management, preferred. Formal training in electricity, electronics, and mechanical principles, required.· 5+ years of proven track record in a similar position demonstrating ability to facilitate the introduction of innovative and creative solutions.· Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to make timely, effective, and fact based decisions· Excellent teamwork and communications skills with all internal functional areas and external suppliers.· Knowledge of Microsoft office suite software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Working Conditions · Primary work location in Bridgeton, Missouri.· Will be required to work in a manufacturing and factory environment.· Travel required.
