State Hydraulics Engineer

The Location and Design Division seeks a licensed Professional Engineer to function as the State Hydraulics Engineer.   Selected candidate will manage the operations of hydraulic design of statewide roadways and provide leadership in the development, management and interpretation of state and federal policies, procedures, and technical directives - specifically in the areas of roadway drainage, erosion and sediment control, river mechanics.  Incumbent will lead strategic planning, set goals and objectives, monitor results, and oversee staff development of the assigned Section.  Responsibilities will also involve special assignments with statewide impact, to include representing the Department at the state and/or national level via participation on AASHTO and Transportation Research Board Committees.   Moving and relocation assistance and other employment incentives may be availabe for the selected candidate.

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated work experience in hydrologic and hydraulic engineering as related to highway engineering and construction.  Thorough knowledge of all phases of hydraulic analysis and design, erosion and sediment control, storm management permit responsibilities, and river mechanics.  Demonstrated abilities and work experience in leadership, coaching, counseling, and managing a program area; in recognizing employee development needs, facilitating development plans to enhance employee performance; in building networks and relationships with managers, other divisions, and other state and national transportation organizations.  Abillities to manage the delivery of exemplary customer service by program area.  Demonstrated highly effective communication skill with emphasis on writing for technical and non-technical subject matter.  Knowledge of VDOT policies and procedures, and demonstrated work experience in the following areas:  hydrologic and hydraulic engineering as related to highway engineering and construction, all phases of hydraulic analysis and design, and erosion and sediment control.  Work history which demonstrates Virginia Storm Management Permit responsibilities and river mechanics is also a plus. 

PE or exempt by code of Virginia. Statement of Economic Interest (Financial Disclosure) required.
