Staff Engineer

August Mack is growing and we're looking for great employees like you!  A Staff employee is responsible for performing various aspects of field work and managing projects related to environmental and health & safety compliance to ensure an economical, timely, and technically sound product. Work is performed with direction from Project Managers; under the general supervision of a Senior Manager.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

· Perform and train Field personnel in all field tasks necessary to complete a project’s scope of work. Activities include, but are not limited to, (Assessment) identify environmental and health & safety concerns at an industrial facility; file review and record searches; prepare reports documenting environmental concerns; (Compliance) prepare environmental permit applications and plans; formulate recommendations for environmental compliance; audit facility operations; develop and implement Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) and storm water plans. Some manage industrial hygiene hazard assessment and process safety management projects.

· Manage all aspects of projects less than $20,000 in size including budget, estimating/management, scheduling, field activities, data interpretation, client interaction, and preparing a final report and invoicing.

· Identify potential sources of contamination when working on a job site.

· Identify changes to the scope of work, discuss with August Mack project manager and onsite client, and execute change orders (if necessary).

· Perform regulatory and technical research as needed to support a project.

· Evaluate, select, schedule, and manage subcontractors.

· Negotiate permit terms with regulatory agencies.

· Responsible for client communication an all projects including closing the sale, explaining the scope and cost of work, presenting the project schedule, informing the client of possible problems, and explaining change orders.

· Prepare a Health and Safety Plan (HASP) for each project and review and enforce the plan with all persons at the work site.

· Document all field activities being performed in a field log including reporting on field techniques, locations of the work, and any relevant field observations.

· Write the final report for senior review including field techniques, location(s), relevant field observations, data interpretation, and conclusions/recommendations.

· Prepare items such as boring logs or well construction diagrams, site plans, photo logs, etc.

· Prepare job descriptions of successfully completed projects and update August Mack resume for marketing purposes.

· Research and report as a subject matter expert (SME) in support of litigation matters.

· Communicate internally to secure work necessary to maintain a billable goal of 68 hours per 80 hour pay period (85% productivity).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Storm water air permitting and regulations.

· SPCC regulations.

· Compliance audits.

· Waste regulations.

· Hazards inherent to the environmental work and related safety measures.

Skill in:

· Regulatory interaction and negotiation.

· Conducting compliance audits.

· Client development.

Ability to:

· Prioritize work load and multitask.

· Document and organize while working on multiple projects.

· Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

· Work closely and manage others in a team environment.

Additional Requirements:

This classification requires the use of a personal or company vehicle on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record and receive a medical clearance from a baseline physical.

 

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:


Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental/chemical engineering, chemistry, environmental science, or a related field and 3 years environmental consulting experience, preferably in the state of Indiana. Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
