Sr. Software Engineer (Sr. Platform API Engineer)

VMware is looking for self-motivated software engineers who are excited by exposing the power of our hosted virtualization platform through robust, easy to use APIs and SDKs that will stand the test of time. The platform team is responsible for building a robust, easy-to-use framework enabling applications (internal and external) to be built on our virtualization platform. You'll explore and develop new and creative uses for virtual machines for a variety of markets (development and test, production datacenter, enterprise desktop security, and more.)

RESPONSIBILITIES
· Invent, design, and implement features and enhancements to our hosted virtualization platform
· Design and develop APIs and other interfaces for using, controlling and manipulating virtual machines
· Design and develop the distributed computing frameworks to support different types of applications built on VMware's platform
· Work closely with virtualization, UI and usability engineers to provide appropriate abstractions for exposing underlying concepts of the hosted virtual platform

REQUIREMENTS
· BS in Computer Science and 7+ years of software product development experience; or, MS in Computer Science and 3+ years experience; or, equivalent professional experience.
- Strong C/C++ development skills, especially multi-threaded programming techniques.
· Excellent software design methodology and skills. Experience developing widely-used APIs or SDKs is a plus.
· Experience with distributed computing environments such as COM/DCOM and Web Services is a plus.
· Understanding of system architecture, including processors, storage and networking is highly desirable.
· Experience developing for both Windows and Linux is highly desirable; at least one is required.
· Requires an individual who had learning agility, creative ideas, good vision, strong curiosity, passion for technology and proven ability to deliver commercial quality software.
· Must be motivated, detail-oriented, have the ability to thrive in a team environment and likes the challenge of turning concepts into realities.
