For the Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer position mentioned, This is a contract position with possibilitiy of being extended. Requirements are below:
MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
REPORTS TO: Engineering Supervisor or other designee
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: Develop custom machine and fixture concepts and designs for test stand and special machine applications. Designs include test part locating and clamping, incorporation of hydraulic and pneumatic actuators, fixturing for rotating test parts, (e.g., electric and hydraulic motor fixturing, drive shafts, bearings, couplers, etc.), guarding, various types of assembly fixtures, and machine frames. The Design Engineer will be required to support shop personnel during the manufacturing phase of a project. The Design Engineer would be part of a project team. The project team in it’s largest form would consist of a project engineer, designers, a software engineer, tool-makers and assembly technicians.
Normal working hours would be 8 - 9 hours per day and 40 - 45 hours per week. Overtime would be required on an as-needed basis.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITY & REQUIRED SKILLS:
1. Must be proficient in producing mechanical solid models using SOLIDWORKS CAD software. Occasionally will require the use of ProE WILDFIRE and/or AUTOCAD software (willing to provide training).
2. Must be capable of quickly and effectively producing working mechanical designs of test stands and special machines. Items to be designed include part location and clamping fixtures, linear actuators (possibly incorporating load cells), drive shafts, couplers for connection to electric or hydraulic motors, incorporation of torque sensors, machine frames, guarding, assembly fixtures, etc.
3. Must be able to create designs that function as required, completed within the project schedule and within the quoted amount of hours, and that can be manufactured within quoted costs.
4. Work with a mechanical designer such that the solid model can be easily detailed for manufacturing.
5. Should be familiar with fabrication and machining methods such that designs can be manufactured in a cost-effective manner.
6. Should be knowledgeable in specifying types of steel, associated heat treatment and plating as required.
7. Research technical information concerning purchased components, specify and document accordingly within a bill of materials (BOM).
8. Meet with the project team and/or Customer representatives as required to review and modify design functionality.
9. Must support shop personnel during the fabrication and machining of designs in order to explain design function, answer questions, aid in solving manufacturing problems, etc.
10. Must work additional hours if required in order to complete designs by the completion date within the project schedule.
11. Must be proficient in using MS-EXCEL, MS-WORD and MS-OUTLOOK.
PEOPLE SKILLS: Must be able to work effectively within a project team and take direction from the project engineer. Be able to interface professionally with Customer personnel.
EDUCATION: Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE: Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in machine and fixture design.
