Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) is one of the world's leading research laboratories in high-energy physics and synchrotron radiation, and is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Stanford University. We currently have an opportunity for a Sr. Electrical Engineer/Electrical Safety Officer.

 

Responsibilities:

Develop and lead implementation of the electrical safety program at SLAC which ensures the safety of staff, users and subcontractors and is compliant with NFPA 70, NFPA70E, 29CFR1910, 29CFR1926, and 10CFR851. Act as Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for the code interpretation and documentation of all decisions regarding the safety of equipment and installations in facilities and R&D projects at SLAC. Represents SLAC electrical safety programs and training to the DOE. Program Manager for the Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) Program. Ex-officio member of the Electrical Safety Committee. Lead, communicate, coordinate with all directorates in the planning, development and implementation of electrical safety programs and training. Working with electrical and electronic experts across the lab, perform or ensure inspections of facilities and equipment as necessary to ensure safe installations at SLAC. Manage central functions of the electrical safety program. Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) for work planning of complex or high hazard electrical tasks as requested. Respond to electrical events as necessary during work hours and after hours to assist with causal analysis and corrective actions. Position reports to the Chief Safety Officer.

 

Required Skills:

Minimum Qualifications: B.S. in electrical or electronic engineering with extensive years of progressive experience including application of consensus codes and regulatory requirements, interpreting codes/requirements for application in aging facilities, design of electrical distribution systems of wide ranging voltages including high voltage systems. Experience leading the development and improvement of the electrical safety program of a facility of comparable size and age. Expert knowledge of electrical codes and standards. Demonstrated outstanding communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others. Preferred Qualifications: M.S. in electrical, P.E., Direct experience as Authority Having Jurisdiction, Experience in a research environment. Electrical power design experience. In-depth understanding of and experience performing electrical work in a research or power distribution environment.
