Sr. Design Engineer I
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Utilize engineering design skills, engine knowledge, Pro/E experience, and Waukesha's -Quality System procedures to create new product designs, product assemblies, and solve design-related problems.
-Work with development engineers, product designers, other design engineers, manufacturing, purchasing, application engineering, marketing, service, contracted engineering consultants, and suppliers to procure prototype hardware for design verification, production release, and trouble-shooting production and field service type problems.
-Work closely with technical and cross-functional personnel to develop technical requirements.
-Prepare and lead design reviews of work products.
-Will require occasional domestic and international travel.
-Provide leadership to direct reports.
-Provide technical support to other functional areas as required.
-Participate in project technical design reviews.
-Be the Engineering representative on a project tean or assume a leadership role of a cross functional team as required.
-Oversee projects progress and direct others as required including performance reviews.
-Perform all required Business System transactions associated with EN releases as required.
-Participate in the creation of Waukesha Engine Quality documents.
Educational Background Required:
-Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology or equivalent education.
-Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
Work Experience Required:
-Minimum of six years of mechanical design specifically with rotating/reciprocating machinery.
-Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing, quality, and assembly processes.
-Two years minimum experience with a solid-modeling CAD software package.
-Demonstrated proficiency in technical and organizational assignments.
-Ability to direct activities of other Engineering personnel, in particular other Design -Engineers and Product Designers.
-Demonstrated proficiency performing complex design calculations and experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5M.
-Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills (i.e.- word processing, spreadsheets and database).
-Demonstrated problem solving skills.
Work Experience Desired:
-Industrial engine design background with experience designing large castings, forgings, and weldments.
-Demonstrated conceptual skills to design engine components, systems, and assemblies in Pro/Engineer.
-Experience using FEA, preferably ANSYS or Pro/Mechanica.
-Knowledge and experience in the use of rapid prototype techniques.
-Experience interfacing with manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, and customers and the ability to mentor others in the engineering organization.
-Experience working in project teams including knowledge of project management techniques and project software.
-Leadership experience.
