HNTB's transit and rail practice encompasses planning, design, design/build, construction management, station facility design, signal systems, bridge and track design; for commuter rail, high-speed rail, heavy rail, LRT, and freight rail projects; providing a safe and efficient rail operations for our clients. The HNTB team of engineers, architects and planners, work together to provide our clients with a complete design, construction and program management solution. We are expanding our market penetration in the Passenger and Freight Rail sectors within our Great Lakes Division and are interested in hiring an experienced on-site construction manager with extensive signals design, and construction services experience. The posting would be located in our downtown Chicago Office, with onsite work in the immediate vicinity of the Chicago office. This position could develop into a senior project management position. Typical clients that HNTB works for or has worked for includes; Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and Regional Transportation Authority(RTA) and other transit/Rail clients within HNTB's 10 state, Great Lakes Division. Responsibilities: Developing plans, specifications, and providing reports; confirming tasks are complete, accurate and in accordance with good engineering practice. Review system layout drawings, schematics and/or engineering specifications for signals equipment and interface coordination during construction to ensure contractor has fulfilled the design requirements. Monitor all equipment installations. Work with multiple subcontractors, assisting with design interpretations and construction implementation. Evaluate signal systems and recommend design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in the system requirement. Technically, involved in resolution of design issues while performing field investigations and/or inspections. Reports directly to the Project Manager, and has close interaction with all HNTB disciplines on multi-disciplined projects. Maintains daily diaries and logs, progress reports, time and materials records and files same; support the team in change order evaluation, design interpretation, shop drawing reviews, site observations and participate as needed, in contractor and client coordination meetings. Participate on HNTB client service teams Active participation in related professional associations QualificationsQualifications: Both signal design and on-site construction management experience, cumulating in a minimum of 15 years experience. A BS in Electrical Engineering would be a plus Essential jobs functions shall have consisted of system level design and development of complex electronic control systems Experience in specification generation, requirements analysis, requirements flow down and requirements traceability. Experience in task management or project management is preferred, Strong communication skills required with the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, contractors, and other consultants. Must be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer skills with proficiency in Excel, MS Word, Project Manager, and AutoCAD. Must possess valid driver's license. A background of Rail Systems Integration between the various Rail Systems elements and the civil and structural disciplines is desired. Knowledge of the Federal Railroad Administration rules and AREMA standards is also desired.
