We are currently seeking a Senior Unix System Administrator/Architect.  This position accomplishes department objectives by leading project teams, formulating and defining specifications for complex software programming applications and modifying existing applications.

 

Job Responsibilities:Develops software programs by analyzing requirements, preparing specifications, designing, coding, testing, debugging and documenting.  Applications are typically system-wide and impact the entire organization.Improves software performance by investigating problems, developing specifications, identifying trends in technology, and recommending, integrating and documenting solutions.Identifies software requirements by interviewing users, interviewing and selecting vendors (if applicable), analyzing applications, evaluating existing and proposed systems, recommending solutions and planning system resources.Completes operations by developing schedules, assigning, prioritizing and monitoring work, implementing productivity standards, resolving operations problems and implementing new procedures.Maintains platform security by developing, implementing, enforcing and maintaining disaster prevention and recovery procedures.Coaches staff by assisting in the recruiting process, orienting, training and mentoring employees.Recommends department policy by developing standards.  Prepares long-range objectives and budgets.Maintains/improves technical/organizational knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, obtaining applicable certifications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices and participating in professional societies and participating in/leading cross-departmental task forces.Performs other duties as directed.

Job Requirements:

Demonstrated ability to maintain quality service by establishing, monitoring and enforcing organizational standards.Ability to contribute to the team effort by accomplishing assigned projects as needed.Demonstrated ability to design software program applications that impact the entire organization.University Degree ( Bachelor's Degree) in related discipline.Five years on-the-job experience in software systems engineering.

Additional Skills/Requirements: 

Demonstrated ability to identify, design and plan for hardware/software needs of a Unix/Linux/Windows environment with an appropriate patch management schedule. An energetic individual with a strong understanding of Sun Solaris operating systems is required (Solaris 10, Global/Logical Domains and Jumpstart) along with Red Hat Linux to support the primary role as a Unix Administrator. Demonstrated knowledge of Veritas Foundation Suite, UFS/ZFS under Solaris 10, SUN storage arrays, including associated management software, and a working knowledge of Veritas NetBackUp is essential. Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, are required.  Effective use of Microsoft Office Suite to create and present project status to all levels of the organization, including the executive level. In addition a candidate with experience in Windows Server, VMware (ESX) and Citrix environments will be given extra consideration.
