Senior Engineer, Software
The Time Warner Cable Corporate office currently seeks an Senior Software Engineer for our Operational Support Systems (OSS) Department. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.
Essential Job Functions:
Primary job responsibilites will include (but not limited to) the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned depending on changes in business and/or operational needs
• Install, configure, and maintain IBM (Micromuse) Netcool Objectservers in a failover environment
• Install, configure, and maintain IBM (Micromuse) Netcool Gateways (Bi-directional gateways to Oracle, Remedy, etc)
• Develop and enhance Netcool Rules Files derived from SNMP MIB's and Syslog messages
• Develop/Implement complex IBM (Micromuse) Netcool automations to perform various event related tasks (Business Rules etc)
• Monitor the flow of traps and alarms via Micromuse (IBM) Netcool and any other Netcool infrastructure related issues
• Create Netcool filters and views to be used in Netcool/Webtop and Netcool Native client
• Work with Netcool end-users to understand needs/requirements and where the Netcool suite of products used in TWC can be enhanced to create a more satisfying "end user experience"
• Monitor the flow of traps and alarms via Micromuse (IBM) Netcool and any other Netcool infrastructure related issues
• Jumpstart new servers and deploy/install new and current Monitoring Tools/Applications to the field
• Monitor the overall health of the Netcool infrastructure via Big brother (or similar technology). Enhance existing Big Brother monitoring capabilities to improve coverage and/or cover new application functionality/issues
• Troubleshoot any system or network performance issues related to Monitoring Tools applications in production and work with other teams to drive them to a resolution
• Troubleshoot key integration points between OSS Platforms/Software and other divisional/regional applications within Time Warner Cable. Deploy tactical and long-term fixes to such issues to reduce/eliminate impact to the users
• Investigate capacity related issues when the systems run out of resources due to general use or addition of new modules/users. Proactively install capacity upgrades to the system and/or network to handle the future requirements
• Work with system and software/application vendors to verify/test/deploy patches and upgrades to current applications
• Manage escalations from other teams (such as Operations, Regional NOCs) and interface with application/software vendors to drive such issues to resolution
Job Requirements:
At least 4-5 years in software development/support for applications developed UNIX OS (preferably Solaris)
- Solid undertstanding of SNMP and Syslog technologies
- Experience with IBM (Micromuse) Netcool suite of products on Solaris and/or Red hat platforms
- Prior experience with IBM (Micromuse) Netcool/OMNIbus (specifically related to working with Netcool Objectservers, Gateways, and Probes)
- Solid understanding of Solaris operating system (any enterprise class UNIX OS or Linux distribution is acceptable) and their tuning and configuration (including their automated installation, jumpstart configuration etc)
- Prior experience in development/maintenance of network and system management tools/software developed in C/Java, Perl/Shell scripts using Oracle (or a comparable RDBMS)
- Good experience with perl and shell scripting
- Prior experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, MySql etc
- Hands-on experience administering an enterprise class Solaris OS (or a comparable UNIX) environment
Successful candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and strong collaboration skills. The candidate must be a team player, with an inherent ability to work well under tight timelines, and have strong problem-solving capabilities. Candidate will also be required to share experience, skill, and talents with peers in the team as well as mentor other team members.
Successful candidate must have the ability to provide concise procedures and documentation of operational procedures. Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, interpersonal and telephone, is a must. Position requires a self-motivated problem-solver with the able to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.

- Prior experience with IBM (Micromuse) Netcool/SSM + Netcool/ASM
- Prior experience with IBM (Micromuse) Netcool/ISM
- Prior experience with Red Hat Package Manager (RPM) and Advanced package Tool (APT)
- Prior experience with the physical and logical elements, interfaces, and configurations of Sun hardware (servers and storage)
- Experience with HTML and XML programming
- Experience administering Windows and Linux systems
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education and experience.
