Senior Design Engineer - Electronics/Firmware
Job Opportunity
We currently have an opening for a Senior Design Engineer – Electronics/Firmware Development in the Electrical Engineering Department. This position contributes to the design and development of new products, support of existing products and support of the implementation of new technology into the product line. This position interfaces with multiple Departments within product development, advanced engineering, manufacturing, quality and sourcing functions.
Core duties include:
Project Management
· Lead mid to high-level design projects providing direction, guidance and engineering expertise to team members.
· Facilitate project flow involving regular contact with manufacturing and other cross functional staff members; must correctly follow all METCo procedures covering new product development and design output in addition to procedures of non-engineering departments related to project flow.
· Schedule, develop agendas for, facilitate and document project meetings.
· Track project schedule to ensure adherence to timelines; keep management informed on project issues. Make formal presentations regarding project status.
Manufacturing
· Interact with manufacturing plants to maintain familiarity with cell operations and staff.
· Make component material or process recommendations. Occasionally explore the use of new materials.
Suppliers
· Interact with suppliers to develop part/product specifications that meet performance requirements while also falling within manufacturing process capability.
Design and Design Analysis Perform a wide variety of calculations and software aided analysis in the following areas:Use of Spice or similar circuit analysis software, circuit layout software, microcomputer based control schemes, phase and PWM motor controls, feedback systems, op amp design, Perform hardware, software or telecomm engineering assignments. Responsible for the design and development of software and/or hardware systems.Prepare product objectives and specifications from customer research. Systems can include computer systems, circuitry, components, instrumentation, peripherals, electronic equipment, operating systems/architecture, application software, user interfaces, etc. Develop prototypes of products. Document work, tests, and solves problems. This Senior level position demonstrates full competency/mastery in own work area.

Testing
· Independently write test requests to the METCo Test Laboratory based on established standard test procedures and prior examples.
· Design new experiments and test systems.
· Occasionally use Design Of Experiments (DOX) analytical techniques.
· Exhibit vision and foresight to test the extremes of a design and guide the team members through well thought out, logical test regimes.
· Develop failure mode theories and methods to validate.
· Consider cost effective methods to obtain necessary data.
This is a highly visible position. The ability to multi-task and be a clear communicator are essential.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering plus five years of related experience. Highly developed level of Electrical engineering aptitude and expertise required, including a broad knowledge of engineering materials used in small appliances or power tools, and exposure to mechanical, electrical and chemical properties and an understanding of the manufacturing process associated with these materials.
CAD Skill Level: ME - Complex 3D; EE - Basic 3D
Geometric Tolerancing: ME - thorough understanding; EE - basic understanding
Tolerance Analysis: Statistical
