BAE Systems is pleased to announce an opening for a Scientist supporting our operations at Lorton, VA. Here are a few more details about the open position:Job Title: ScientistSupporting: Technologies Solutions & ServicesTechnologies Solutions & Services of BAE Systems Inc. provides a full spectrum of systems engineering, technical services and ordnance systems to our customers in disciplines essential for successful systems development, operation, and maintenance.  Our full life-cycle systems capabilities include system design, integration and test, software development engineering, and maintenance and integrated logistics support. Position Details:Provide research & development support, expert advice and analyses support to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) as part of Advisory & Assistance Services (A&AS) contract. Provide general knowledge and subject matter expertise in radiation detector and related technical areas. Provide technical support in the areas of applied-research level active and passive detection of radioactive material in specific and general applications. Support development of program plans for new technology areas including areas such as research transition to Advanced Concept Technology Demonstrations (ACTDs) and Advanced Technology Demonstrations (ATDs). Analyze current capabilities and future requirements in order to determine capability gaps, and make recommendations to close these gaps. Assist in monitoring contractor performance, providing oversight/ management of research cost and progress. Support government acquisition activities. Qualifications: Position requires an advanced technical degree (nuclear physics or nuclear engineering) with at least 7 years relevant experience. This requirement may be offset if desired acquisition experience is met or candidate possesses a PhD. A background in R&D Program Management is required. Experience in Radiation Detection is required. Experience working with DoD, Federal Agencies or National Laboratories is highly desired. DoD acquisition experience highly desired. Certification above level 1 may decrease the educational experience level. Proven ability to translate analyses into clearly described written products (briefings, reports, White Papers) is required. Applicant must be computer literate and be skilled in using standard office automation programs to include Microsoft Project. The job requires travel.
