SAFETY SPECIALIST (Senior Level)

SUMMARY: Provide technical support to clients in the planning and implementation of industrial, occupational and construction safety program assessments. Could involve travel to a variety of client locations for short periods of time. Knowledge and understanding of DOE requirements applicable to 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety & Health Rule (WSH), 29 CFR 1910/1926 OSHA, and the DOE HSS Office of Enforcement web information on Price-Anderson Amendment Act, Worker Safety & Health, and Security is required. Ability to obtain a security clearance would be required. Certified Industrial Hygienist required. Ability to do marketing and business development in technical area also required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Offsite activities will include: Review national standards, safety guidance, and Department of Energy requirements applicable to 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety & Health Rule (WSH), 29 CFR 1910/1926 OSHA, and the DOE HSS Office of Enforcement web information on Price-Anderson Amendment Act, Worker Safety & Health, and Security. On-site activities will include: Support of a client-directed WSH team to include performing WSH issue interviews with line owners, review of pertinent documents, documenting noncompliance results and identifying 10 CFR 851 and OSHA appropriate citations, Assist in analyzing client WSH issues and producing noncompliance and trending reports, Assist in reconciling WSH records in the client’s database by reviewing reports and updating records, attending meetings and recording minutes. Develop written technical reports for delivery to clients, perform quality control review, and maintain deliverable quality in accordance with Project Plan and QA requirements Remain cognizant of safety and industrial hygiene regulations and requirements Interface and interacts with client and regulatory agencies Maintain membership in technical organizations pertinent to technical field of expertise EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a 4-year college or university in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, or related science. Over ten years of relevant and progressive experience is required. Completion of 40-hour HAZWOPER training (with appropriate annual 8-hour refresher courses) strongly preferred. Certification as Industrial Hygienist. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong skills in written communication, information synthesis and analysis, and computer proficiency are required. Must be able to independently manage multiple projects with limited direction or supervision. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents written in English. Ability to search (primarily using the internet) for pertinent facts and data, analyze and evaluate information, and form accurate conclusions. Ability to compose clear, accurate reports. Ability to orally query and obtain information. Ability to speak effectively to clients and professional peers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to comprehend and apply the principles of advanced mathematics, modern algebra, calculus, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to use spreadsheets and other computer based programs. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Ability to obtain a DOE security clearance. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
