Headquartered in San Ramon, California, and conducting business in approximately 180 countries, the company is engaged in every aspect of the oil and natural gas industry, including exploration and production; refining, marketing and transportation; chemicals manufacturing and sales; and power generation.Energy Technology Company is accepting online applications for the position of Research Scientist - Rock Mechanics located in Houston, Texas.Position OverviewThe Research Scientist - Rock Mechanics will be a Geomechanics member of Chevron Energy Technology Company Rock Mechanics Team. This team conducts strategic research, technology development and provides technical services to worldwide business units in all areas of petroleum geomechanics.Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Technical focus of this position include:- Sand production prediction for completion design support- Wellbore stability analysis for well design- In-situ stress and mechanical properties estimation (using direct core measurements and indirect methods including open hole log and numerical modeling routines)- Mechanical core testing and reservoir compaction/subsidence• Primary business objective is to reduce well cost and optimize development plans and well production• Tasks will be a combination of Technical Service to support field operations, Technology Development, and Strategic Research. Required Basic Skills : • PhD level geomechanics scientist • Must possess exceptional and proven capability to determine sand production risk using analytical and numerical solving routines• Expert knowledge in reservoir failure analysis including sanding potential and subsidence from compaction• Must be able to use sparse data such as limited log/drilling records to hi-end numerical modeling codes• Ability to determine in-situ pre-drill formation stress and determine same for the near-wellbore using open hole log & numerical model prediction techniques• Good knowledge of coupled T-H-M-C (thermal-hydraulic-mechanical-chemical) processes impact to near-wellbore alteration and hole stability prediction• Broad rock mechanics knowledgePreferred Skills :• Capability to generate research proposals that link to Chevron’s business plan• Capability to present complex geomechanics topics to non-experts; able to mentor non-experts and extend the use of geomechanics technology• General soil mechanics knowledge• Laboratory rock / soil testing experienceRelocation benefits will be consideredExpatriate Assignment will be considered Learn more about Chevron Location:Houston, TX 77002 Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Engineering
