Chevron Energy Technology Company is accepting online applications for the position of Research Geophysicist - Resistivity located in Houston, Texas or San Ramon, California.Overview:Chevron is currently seeking a resistivity specialist for a career research position to join the Formation Evaluation Measurements team in San Ramon, California or Houston, Texas. The holder of this position will be the lead scientist for borehole resistivity and Electromagnetic Conductivity (EM) measurements in Chevron’s Research & Development program. The primary responsibility of this position will be to establish research directions and carry out this research in order to add value to Chevron’s oil and gas assets by improving our ability to use resistivity-based methods to manage reservoirs, quantify reserves, improve geosteering capability and reduce uncertainty. Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: Initiate and perform applied research projects on oilfield application of resistivity measurements to logging and drilling problems. Maintain awareness of and leverage research by other oil companies, oilfield service companies and universities. Perform consulting and technical service, as required, for internal research and operating units worldwide in the areas of resistivity modeling and interpretation, training and operations support.Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering, geophysics, math or similar field. A minimum of five years research experience in applications to oil industry problems. Experience in wireline (open and cased hole) and LWD resistivity/dielectric technology. Experience with data acquisition, quality control, and interpretation of resistivity logs. Demonstrated capability to perform and lead R&D on resistivity and EM measurements. Knowledge of and ability to model EM propagation in wellbore environments. Demonstrated capability and interest in performing independent and collaborative research work and tie this work to operating interpretation needs. High level programming skills needed to develop new modeling and processing techniques. Willingness and ability to work with other researchers and interpreters, within Formation Evaluation and across a range of disciplines.
