Position Description:

Qualifications:

POSITION SUMMARY: In this job, the incumbent will lead complicated polymer coating development projects for glass yarn textiles, develop and implement new processing methods for glass yarn textiles, and lead multiple research efforts aimed at the development of innovative and patentable textile products and processes. The incumbent will be expected work closely with the Textile Solutions business and manufacturing plants throughout the world to ensure that new processes and products are well targeted and implemented efficiently and effectively. The incumbent will be expected to stay abreast of new developments and innovation in the fields of textiles, polymer coatings and polymer processing for textiles.NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION The incumbent will work within the framework of established policies and precedents. They are expected to meet company research standards and follow company research practices. They are expected to utilize sound technical knowledge of materials, processes, and products to improve product performance, reduce costs, maximize production, and support innovation. He/She must be capable of leading and executing projects that may be several months or years in duration. The incumbent is expected to work closely with other researchers in the R&D group, with the Textile Solutions business, and with our internal contract research organization to ensure that all technical efforts are focused and linked to the needs of the business. The incumbent must 1.) Be capable of planning, executing and delivering results on time2.) Demonstrate an ability to accelerate research activities to meet the aggressive demands of a fast-paced research organization3.) Show a proactive commitment to quality4.) Document results in a manner that is consistent with company intellectual property procedures 5.) Analyze and provide written and oral reports on their work. The incumbent may supervise technicians and/or engineers.COMPETENCIES: BACKGROUND/SKILLSThis position requires skills associated with Ph.D. in polymer science, textile engineering, or materials science and a proven track record in an industrial R&D organization working on the development polymeric coatings and processes for glass yarn textiles. The incumbent must have a demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects. Attention to detail, customer focus and follow-through are critically important to the incumbent’s success.
