Quality Welding Specialist
Our client is a heavy metal fabrication and manufacturing company that produces a wide range of large industrial & commercial products. They are seeking a Welding Engineer for their facility in the Houston, TX area.
The Opportunity
The Welding Engineer will be responsible for the development and integration of all welding processes for fabrication and manufacturing and the implementation and maintenance of quality processes, practices and procedures. This includes conceptualizing, developing and/or overseeing the successful implementation of manual and automated welding methods on the shop floor. The Welding Engineer will also be responsible for the development of high volume manufacturing welding processes, robotics, automated welding processes, and the development and implementation/support of all welding quality programs.
Principal Accountabilities
· Develop and qualify detailed welding procedures and schedules for manual and robotic/automatic welders.
· Develop and document required quality programs to address such areas as welder qualification, inspection of weldments and development and monitoring of inspection plans to meet contract requirements.
· Provide technical direction, testing, training and work assignments for inspectors and welders. This includes approval of new hire welders
· Monitor and audit subcontractor’s quality performance.
· Review customer specifications and advise on welding cost estimates for required processes.
· Maintain records on welding machines and verification/inspection equipment insuring they are in calibration.
· Coordinate repair and maintenance of welding equipment.
· Maintain welder performance data. Develop and track welding productivity standards versus actuals on a monthly basis.
· Develop budget and control capital spending for new welding equipment.
· Insure industry competitiveness of welding operations by investigating and recommending new welding technologies.
· Develop and/or assist in developing ITP’s for the project area.
Requirements
Bachelor Degree preferred.5+ years of industrial welding experience in a fabrication operation.Certified Welding Inspector preferred.
· The ability to interpret the findings of x-rays, MT, PT, and UT examinations.
