Public Health Engineering - Environmental Protection Experienced and Entry Level Positions
Suffolk County Department of Health Services has openings in Yaphank and Farmingville, NY for experienced and entry level engineers in fields of drinking water supply, wastewater management, hazardous materials storage, and public swimming pool design.

Responsibilities may include construction design review, evaluation and approval of electronic and mechanical equipment, evaluation of installation procedures, construction inspections and approval of completed projects.
Â
Job duties for certain positions may also include investigating and testing new technoologies, conducting or overseeing field investigations (e.g. monitoring, troubleshooting/investigating, etc.), managing regional planning studies, supporting enforcement programs, and drafting or updating codes and regulations.
Â
Some positions include supervisory and/or administrative duties.

Minimum qualifications:

For entry level positions -
Graduation from a NYS or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's in Engineering or Engineering Technology; and either: A Master's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Public Health; or One year of experience as a public health engineer or trainee in a state or municipal health department; or, Two years experience as a public health or sanitary engineer or trainee in a private organization.

For experienced positions -
Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, and four (4) years of sanitary, public health or environmental engineering experience.
NOTE: A Master's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Public Health may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
Candidates must possess a Professional Engineer's License issued by the State of New York at the time of appointment, and license must be maintained throughout employment in this title.

At the time of appointment, and during employment in this title, employees are required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS, or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
