Project Manager, Environmental StewardshipKaiser PermanenteOakland, CAUnder the direction of the Environmental Stewardship Officer, the Project Manager directs environmental stewardship efforts to ensure Kaiser Permanentes business practices are aligned with protecting the environment by planning, organizing, and driving environmentally conscious business operations. Provides practical support and management tools to regional and local sustainability programs.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 1) Program Management: Collaborates with other internal national functions such as National Facilities Services, National Procurement and Supply and National Environmental, Health and Safety to develop consensus and direction on shared program priorities, facilitating national efforts in developing, designing, and operating facilities and conducting activities that take into consideration the efficient consumption of energy and raw materials, the sustainable use of renewable resources, the minimization of adverse environmental impact and waste generation, chemical use policy, food policy, and the safe and responsible disposal of wastes. 2) Operational Leadership: Acts as a center of expertise by identifying, evaluating, and transferring appropriate green practices across the Program. Tracks and reports sustainability performance. Examines and promotes pollution prevention and waste minimization options to include product substitution, process modification, recycling, and re-use. Supports the Programs Environmental Stewardship Council to establish consensus based guidelines. Promotes behavioral changes on the part of KP staffs, members, and vendors. 3) Organizational Representative: Participates in external regional and national meetings to improve KPs performance through benchmarking and networking. May represent the organization in activities involving national leaders in business, government, labor, the community, Health Plan members and health care providers. Utilizing KPs government relations processes and protocols, advocates for responsible federal, state, and local public policy. Monitors, analyzes, and evaluates proposed legislative green initiatives. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Bachelors Degree in engineering, environmental science, business administration, public health, or related field or equivalent experience required. 2. 7+ years of experience with large multi-site employer, consulting firm, non-governmental organization, or government agency engaged in solid waste management, energy conservation, legislative analysis, and program development.3. Significant expertise and knowledge of US environmental legislation. Knowledge of state regulations in all states where KP operates.4. Must be able to work effectively in a Labor Management Partnership Environment. 5. Up to 25% travel requiredPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS1. Masters degree preferred. 2. Registered Environmental Assessor, Professional Engineer, or Environmental / Solid Waste or Energy Management Certificates / credentials preferred.3. 3 - 5 years of interpreting environmental legislation which impacts resource conservation and recycling initiatives preferred.REQUIRED COMPETENCIES1. Excellent project management skills to include work breakdown structures, project networks, resource loading charts, and budgeting plans.2. Must be able to work in an environment that has a strong customer focus, high degree of teamwork, and passion for collaboration with other Program and Regional colleagues.3. Must be able to implement change through influence and utilization of existing resources. Demonstrated expertise in facilitation and consulting skills, including the ability to manage to an outcome with staff that are not direct reports.4. Health care experience preferred, with emphasis on large scale project deployment across wide areas.5. Demonstrated ability to develop strategy, set direction, and deploy key tactical environmental management projects through a rigorous business and project planning process that ensures actions are completed on time, within the agreed upon scope and in budget.6. Demonstrated excellent written and presentation communication skills.7.
