Principal Electrical/Laser Communications Engineer

Plans and performs PPM (pulse position modulation) laser communications (not protocol invariant, low power FSO), control, and electrical engineering duties on PPM blue-green, higher power, laser data links from airborne platforms to underwater platforms, where general objectives are stated. Emphasis is on PPM communication architectures and not necessarily the lasers themselves. Individual acts as internal electrical and communications expert and may represent the phases projects and for performing advanced development work. Develop and apply advanced communications and signal processing methods, theories and research techniques. Investigates and advises management of the feasibility of new laser communications projects, systems or approaches. Provides work leadership to lower level electrical engineers. Provides direct technical leadership to electronics, electro-optical, transmitters and receivers for PPM laser communications architecture and implementation, electronic system engineering, design development, integration, test and evaluation of prototype systems; including hardware and software/firmware integration and checkout. Work includes leading lab and field testing, platform integration, and evaluation and troubleshooting system performance.QualificationsTechnical experience should include system level as well as detailed level PPM laser communications, control, and embedded processor design. Most importantly, experience with PPM communications standards, protocols, and high frequency laser repetition rates. Less experience with laser sensors, inertial platforms, gimbals. Experience with power supplies, and both analog and digital circuit development mandatory. Perform electrical system engineering and lead system development tasks for analog and digital electronics associated with PPM laser communications systems. Must be able to generate PPM communications architectures, protocols, and preambles for data link acquisition, PPM communications requirements, functional electrical specifications, perform sensor system lab tests, evaluate data, and perform/oversee interfacing of electronic subsystems. MS or PhD in electrical engineering is required. 10+ years cumulative experience in all areas.US Citizenship is required
